South Tahoe Optimist Relays

“Retro Relays”

Thursday, September 20th, 2012

Coaches,

Don’t know what to do with all of those old cross country uniforms that you have stacked up in your team room?  Well we have the answer!  Dust off those old boxes and bust out  those crusty old uniforms ‘cause the 23rd  annual South Tahoe Retro Relays is on!  Don’t have enough of one set to fit all of your team, no worries!  The uniforms don’t have to match, just the school name on the unis.  Tube socks and head bands are groovy!  Each relay team will be assigned race numbers so we all can keep track of your team.

The cost for your school is only $55.00.  The more relays teams you have the more bang you get for your buck.  And if you need to, you can bring your check to the meet.  We are limiting the number of school to 20 because there is some single track trail, so sign up ASAP!

All runners will run 2.0 miles on a course that is both hilly and spectator friendly.  All runners will start & finish in our football stadium and of course we will be playing retro music to complete the setting.  Same course as last year.  Coaches are invited to put together “coaches teams” and compete in the race.  Let’s find out how fast you really are!

All questions can be directed to:

Dominique Westlake

Bus Drop off/Pickup Instructions

Once again, our campus is under construction.  Buses will not be able to come on campus to drop off athletes since there will be a crane in the middle of the road.  Buses will have to drop off on Gardner St. again this year then proceed to the “Y” area and park in the vacant parking lot across the street from Raley’s Supermarket.  There will also be middle school races in progress when the high school teams show up.  Last year, we had issues with buses getting blocked in when dropping off athletes at the corner of Gardner St. and 13th St. so we have come up with a different drop off area to help alleviate congestion by the school.

Directions:

Once your bus passes the “Y” area where Raley’s Supermarket is, proceed past Les Schwab Tire store.  Turn right on Gardner St. where the Toyota dealership is.  This is Julie Lane.  Continue up the road and take the left fork in the road.  This begins a steep uphill.  At the second fork in the road go left again.  This becomes Gardner St.  The high school is on your left.  At the top of the hill where the road flattens out, the softball fields will be on your left and Shady Lane will be on your right.  Buses can drop off here and teams can walk across the fields to the football field.  There will be races in progress so please be alert to runners on the course.

Buses can then continue on Gardner St. and turn right on 13th St.  Continue on 13th St. to Hwy 89, turn right.  This will take the bus back to the “Y” area.  Vacant parking lot will be on the left right before the light.

Buses can pick up teams on the front of the school in the student parking area after the races.  School is dismissed at 2:40, so the student parking area should be clear by 3:15
